Niskayuna

Niskayuna - Audrey Louise Hohman Bain, 93, passed away peacefully June 18, 2025. She was an adoring wife to her husband David, proud mother of daughter Hillary (Joseph) Ferrazzi and Andrew Bain, grandmother to Porter (Ben) Mills, Thompson Bain and Anna Ferrazzi, and great-grandmother of Thea. She is fondly remembered by her sister Norma, her brother Bob and many beloved nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband David, parents Harold and Anna and sister Delores.

Audrey graduated from Penn State University in 1952 with a degree in Home Economics and English. She learned much about science and nutrition and gained credentials to be a teacher. She enjoyed working to mentor young girls.

Audrey was a woman of grace, strength, and vibrant spirit—a natural leader with a deep belief in order and an unwavering willingness to share her perspective. Her dedication to service and community shone through in everything she did. For over 30 years, she volunteered at the Ellis Hospital Gift Shop, eventually serving as President of the Ellis Hospital Volunteers. In later years, she remained actively involved, serving on several committees at her Glen Eddy residence.

Audrey gave generously and thoughtfully to causes that mattered to her, always seeking to further the missions of charitable and community organizations. Her faith was a cornerstone of her life; as a longtime member of the First Reformed Church of Schenectady, she served faithfully as both Deacon and Elder. During the holidays, she could be found preparing the church sanctuary with the Chancel Guild, a role she cherished for many years.

Audrey found profound joy in the natural world. Her love of flowers, plants and gardens remained constant throughout her life. She noticed and appreciated the smallest wonders—like the simple beauty of a lemon slice, dew on a peony blossom, or the power of a thunderstorm. A passionate designer, she brought beauty into the world through flower arranging, which she continued well into her 90s. A member of multiple garden clubs, Audrey was known for her extraordinary gardenia plant, which she lovingly nurtured for over 50 years. Its blooms often appeared miraculously, marking special occasions or offering quiet comfort during difficult times. Many remember receiving a single blossom from her.

She was involved the Panhellenic Society through her ties to the Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority and active with the P.E.O. Sisterhood. Beyond her love for family and community, Audrey held a lifelong passion for classical music and the arts. A natural with a brush and palette, she dabbled in watercolor, and brought her creative eye to everything she touched. Though she made her home in Schenectady from 1969 onward, her journey took her from her childhood in Pittsburgh, PA to State College, PA; Sheboygan, WI; Swampscott, MA; Hershey, PA; and Philadelphia, PA. She also treasured her time near the sea, spending many joyful summers on Cape Cod.

Audrey loved deeply and lived fully. Her greatest joy came from time spent with family and friends of all ages. She was endlessly curious, always open to learning something new, and never one to pass up a good laugh. Those closest to her will remember her affectionate way of calling them “Darling”—a small word, made big by her love.

The family wishes to extend heartfelt thanks to the exceptional private caregivers who supported Audrey over the years, as well as the compassionate staff of Home Instead, Ellis Hospital, and Kingsway Community for their care in her final days.

A gathering to honor and remember Audrey will be held at a later date. Arrangements are by Jones Funeral Home in Colonie. To leave a message of condolence for the family please visit www.jonesfuneralny.com.
