Jeanette M. Groves

May 2, 1931 — January 11, 2021

Jeanette M. Groves, of Schenectady, died at Ellis Hospital on January 11, 2021, after a short illness.
Jeanette was born on May 2, 1931 in Scranton, PA, to the late Forest H. and Valedia M. Gardner. After graduating from Lackawanna Business College, she moved to Schenectady, where she was employed as a secretary at General Electric. She met and married James (Jim) Groves in 1957.
Jeanette provided a warm and loving home for her daughters. In addition to running the household, she enjoyed crafts, gardening, reading, and spending time with friends and neighbors. During summers, the family enjoyed time on their houseboat on Lake Champlain, where, according to Jim, Jeanette served as Chief Navigator, Helmsman, Captain, Cook, Bottle Washer, and Boss. She was a member of the Schenectady Yacht Club.
Jeanette was an active member of Emmanuel-Friedens Church, where she served many roles, including treasurer for several years.
In addition to her parents, Jeanette was predeceased by her husband, Jim, in 1997, and a brother, Kenneth. Survivors include: three daughters, Kimberly Groves of Los Angeles, CA, Deborah Groves of Juneau, AK, and Lisa Groves and her husband Joel Tedford of Westford, MA; and two sisters, Vivian McCormick of Waymart, PA., and Barbara Evans of Reading, PA.
Services will be private at the convenience of the family.
The family wishes to thank the wonderful staff at Kingsway Community for their care of Jeanette in her times of need.
Memorial contributions may be made to Schenectady Community Ministries or City Mission of Schenectady.
Arrangements are by the Jones Funeral Home, Schenectady, NY
