Joan M. Terwilliger

NISKAYUNA - Joan M. Terwilliger, 90, of Niskayuna, passed away peacefully on Friday, May 23, 2025 at her residence, surrounded by her loving family.

She was born in Schenectady on July 15, 1934 and graduated from Nott Terrace High School in 1952. Joan was united in marriage to Ronald “Twig” Terwilliger on February 9, 1957 at Sacred Heart Church. They had 47 wonderful years until his passing in 2004. Joan retired from management with Verizon in June of 1990.

Joan was active in school activities when her sons were in school in Schenectady. She volunteered with the Pioneers of the Telephone Company and at her Church community (former Our Lady of Fatima and St. Kateri Tekakwitha Parish). She attended all of her sons sports and music activities and eventually with her granddaughters in Niskayuna and Virginia from K thru college.

She is survived by her two sons, Michael (Carol) Terwilliger of Niskayuna and Daniel (Susan) Terwilliger of Alexandria, VA. She is the cherished Nana of Emma (Dominick) Recckio of Ithaca, Abbie Terwilliger of Niskayuna, Natalie Terwilliger and Anne Terwilliger of Alexandria, VA. She is the sister of Patricia Grant of Guilderland. She is also survived by her right and left hand nieces, Joan (Vic) Trombley and Patti (Mark) Caruso. She is the aunt of Matt (Cindy), Mark (Diane), Gary (Pam), Mark, William, Rudy, Joan, Patti, Kathleen, Suzanne C. and Suzanne A.; many great and great great nieces and nephews.

Joan was predeceased be her mother, her sister Eleanor and her in-laws.

The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, May 31, 2025 at 10:00 am at St. Kateri Tekakwitha Parish, 2216 Rosa, Rd., Schenectady. Visitation will be Saturday morning from 9 to 10am at the Church. Interment will be in Most Holy Redeemer Cemetery.
