Glenville – Robert K. Sweet passed away from natural causes at Glendale Home on June 8, 2026, surrounded by his children. Bob was the son of the late Jessie Horton Sweet and Margaret VanAuken Sweet, and was born on July 5, 1934. He graduated from Nott Terrace High School in 1952 and later from Siena College in Loudonville.

Bob was employed as a Division Manager at Sears Roebuck in Schenectady and Syracuse. Upon returning to Schenectady, he took over the family business of Tiemann’s Cleaners and Tailors, Ltd. Bob retired from the business in 1986, and in 1987 he returned to the business world and was the Area Franchisee for Mail Boxes Etc. (UPS Outlets), retiring in 1994. He then began enjoying gardening, traveling, making miniature dollhouses, volunteering, and painting (300) fire hydrants in the City of Schenectady.

Bob served in many organizations, Rotary, Merchants groups, Schenectady Turn Verein, Chamber of Commerce, and was Chairman of the reunions for Nott Terrace High School, class of 1952. He was a member of Good Shepard Lutheran Church in Glenville, New York.

Bob was predeceased in 2014 by his wife of 59 years, Carolyn Tiemann Sweet. He is survived by his children, William Sweet of Glenville, Patti (Paul) Rutherford of Rexford, and Linda Sweet of Scotia. Bob is also survived by his grandchildren, Victor (Alannah) Sweet, Justin (Cara) Rutherford, Nicholas Rutherford, and Connor (Lilly) Rutherford, and Mitchell (Jaxx) Burke, and Mikaela (Matt Center) Burke, and three great-grandchildren; Harrison Sweet, and Liam and Addison Center.

Calling hours and funeral service will be at Cannon Funeral Home, 2020 Central Avenue, Colonie on Tuesday, June 23, 2026 at 10:00 am. Private interment will be at Parkview Cemetery at a later date. Contributions may be made to a charity of your choice or to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital (stjude.org), 501 St. Jude Place Memphis, TN 38105, or the Double H Ranch (doublehranch.org), 97 Hidden Valley Road Lake Luzerne, NY 12846.
